The Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) was tasked with the measure to amend regulations to align with future trade practices. Consequently, ETDA has prepared a draft Notification of the Electronic Transactions Commission (ETC) regarding additional duties for digital platform business operators in specific marketplace categories. The measure entrusted to the ETDA aims to address the issue of substandard imported goods and foreign business that violates the law.
The main content of the draft notification includes additional requirements for digital platform operators in specific marketplace categories to ensure that the operators, including foreign e-commerce operators, are properly verified and registered in their platforms to enable the government oversight to protect consumers and ensure fairness in business operations. Additional provisions will also be established to promote fair competition and safeguard Thai consumers, including the standard requirements over the goods and requirements for measures against non-compliance of the operators.
The draft notification is open for a public hearing starting from 30 October 2024 and is expected to close on 15 November 2024.
