The Board of Investment (BOI) is finalizing a comprehensive strategy aimed at positioning Thailand as a regional leader in semiconductors and advanced electronics, extending beyond its traditional role as a manufacturing base. The strategy is expected to be submitted to the National Semiconductor and Advanced Electronics Policy Committee (Semiconductor Board) within the next two months.
The initiative responds to the Semiconductor Board’s directive to accelerate expertise development in semiconductors and advanced electronics. The strategy will not only strengthen Thailand’s advanced manufacturing capabilities but also establish the country as a hub for research and development, skilled workforce development, and regional supply chain integration.
The announcement was made during the 2025 Thailand Electronics Circuit Asia (THECA 2025) forum at Bitec Bang Na, which highlighted current industry developments and facilitated international business partnerships.
This initiative builds upon the framework approved by the Semiconductor Board in late 2024, which focused on workforce development in anticipation of substantial foreign direct investment (FDI). The BOI projects that FDI in semiconductors and advanced electronics could generate at least THB 500 billion by 2029. Between 2022 and June 2025 alone, Thailand recorded approximately 500 projects worth over THB 700 billion in the two sectors.
A notable trend is the rapid expansion of the printed circuit board (PCB) industry, with 180 projects valued at over THB 200 billion. The BOI described this as a “big wave of PCB investment,” driven by global firms expanding their footprint in Thailand. For example, Mektec Manufacturing Corporation (Thailand), a subsidiary of Japan’s NOK Corporation and the country’s largest PCB producer, secured BOI incentives to expand production in response to rising customer demand.
The forthcoming strategy reflects Thailand’s policy shift towards high-value industries, aiming to solidify its role in the global semiconductor supply chain, attract sustained foreign investment, and foster innovation-led growth in advanced electronics.
