The Thai cabinet has approved a comprehensive visa package proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to stimulate tourism, attract long-stay visitors and support economic growth. The measures, which will be implemented in phases, aim to enhance Thailand’s appeal to tourists, remote workers and foreign residents.
Key initiatives include visa-free entry for nationals of 93 countries for up to 60 days and an expanded Visa on Arrival scheme covering 31 territories. The government has also introduced the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) to accommodate remote workers and digital nomads, while the Non‑Immigrant ED Plus Visa allows foreign students to work while studying in Thailand.
In addition, the government plans to streamline the visa system by reducing the number of non-immigrant visa categories from 17 to 7 by August 31 this year. Digital immigration processes have also been expanded, including e-visa services at all Thai embassies and consulates and the full implementation of the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC).
Looking ahead, the government intends to expand the Visa on Arrival scheme to additional countries and revise eligibility criteria for long-stay retirement visas, further strengthening Thailand’s position as a destination for tourism, remote work and long-term residence.
