Law reform on ease of doing business

On 11 June 2021, the Thai Chamber of Commerce proposed an amendment or improvement of laws and regulations with the purpose of easing operators conducting businesses that were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in particular to those related to tourism-related businesses including those regulated by the Hotel Act and Town and Country Planning Act.

The topics that the Thai Chamber of Commerce discussed on this issue regarding tourism-related businesses are summarized below:

          ➢ Encouraging the Hotel Act and Town and Country Planning Act to be amended in order to help hotel operators by allowing the residential building to be used as hotel in the easier procedures.
          ➢ Reducing the process of applying for construction permit and also the process of renewal such permit.
          ➢ Allowing foreigners to stay in Thailand longer by adjusting the criteria in order to create motivation for foreigners.
          ➢ Allowing foreigners to rent residences in Thailand for a longer period of time.
