Currently, the use of canned liquefied petroleum gas and portable gas stoves has become increasingly widespread, however, improper use may pose significant safety risks. To protect the consumers by ensuring safe product usage and providing comprehensive information for informed purchasing decisions, the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (“OCPB”) announced the Notification of the Committee on Labels. It is essential to classify liquefied petroleum gas products as regulated goods subject to labeling control.
Canned liquefied petroleum gas products refer to products that contain liquefied hydrocarbons, such as propane, butane, or a mixture of these gases, primarily packaged in aerosol cans as fuel, with a maximum capacity of 1 liter. Portable gas stove products are cooking devices that use canned liquefied petroleum gas as fuel.
Labels on regulated products shall specify the product type or category in a manner that clearly identifies the product. They shall also include the name or registered trademark in Thailand of the manufacturer for products produced domestically for sale in Thailand. For imported products, the label shall display the name or registered trademark in Thailand of the importer or distributor and indicate the country of origin.
The label shall display instructions for use to ensure that consumers can correctly understand the intended purpose of the product. Additionally, it shall include warnings, prohibitions, precautions, and storage recommendations according to the type of product, enabling consumers to use the item safely. Furthermore, this text shall be printed in a larger font than other text and should contrast clearly with the background color to ensure visibility and distinction from other information.
This notification will be effective on 24 November 2024.
