New notifications for Passenger Vehicles with Compressed Natural Gas

After the severe bus accident on 1 October 2024, the public has become more aware of the road safety in Thailand, especially for accident caused by passenger vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) which are not properly regulated. Thus, the Department of land transportation has issued a new measure to ensure the safety of those vehicles. This serves as one of the initial steps to reform the public transportation in Thailand to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The new measure requires all CNG buses nationwide to undergo renewed safety inspection by 30 November 2024. The safety inspection includes the inspection on the component parts of the vehicle including emergency doors, emergency exits, entry-exit doors, seat belts, window-breaking hammer, fire extinguisher, and gas tank to ensure that everything is in good condition and up to date.
