On 28 February 2025, the Food and Drug Administration of Thailand (“FDA”) opened for a public hearing on draft Cosmetic Committee Notification on Labeling Requirements for Toothpaste Containing Fluoride.
The purpose of this draft notification is to require manufacturers for sale, importers for sale, or contract manufacturers of toothpaste containing fluoride to prepare labels displaying the following information:
- The label must display the words “Fluoride Toothpaste” or other similar wording; and
- The total fluoride concentration, calculated in the form of fluoride ion, with the concentration unit expressed in parts per million (part per million) or “ppm”, such as “Fluoride content … ppm” or “Total fluoride … ppm”, or other similar wording.
However, toothpaste containing fluoride that has been labeled before this notification comes into effect shall have its labels amended to comply with this notification.
The remaining existing labels may continue to be used, but for no more than one year from the date this notification takes effect.
