SET Upgrades Trading Systems with Nasdaq to Boost Global Competitiveness

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has upgraded its trading systems and regulatory framework through an expanded collaboration with Nasdaq, aiming to align with leading global markets and bolster investor confidence. The partnership focuses on modernising infrastructure, enhancing oversight and risk management, and exploring the use of AI-powered trading solutions.

SET senior executive vice-president Soraphol Tulayasathien said the improvements are designed to attract international investors and demonstrate the exchange’s technological capacity, while also preparing for next-generation innovations. Since 2023, the SET and the Thailand Futures Exchange have operated on Nasdaq-developed systems, which meet global standards for resilience and efficiency.

Nasdaq’s technology, including its INET platform, is known for delivering tighter spreads, deeper liquidity and lower transaction costs, and has proven particularly effective during periods of volatility. Phil Mackintosh, Nasdaq’s chief economist, highlighted the role of AI, cloud migration and tokenisation in reshaping global trading, with AI also strengthening market surveillance.

SET’s CONNECT-MME platform, launched in 2023, has already improved resilience during volatile conditions, supported by safeguards such as dynamic price bands and auto pause. Looking ahead, the collaboration plans to roll out fractional share trading, 24-hour trading, and other innovations to enhance fairness, transparency, and competitiveness in Thailand’s capital markets.
