The Board of Investment (BOI) is preparing to propose a new strategy to enable Thailand to move beyond advanced electronics production and establish itself as a regional leader in semiconductors and advanced electronics manufacturing. According to Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary-General of the BOI, the draft strategy is nearly complete and is expected to be submitted to the National Semiconductor and Advanced Electronics Policy Committee within one to two months.
The new strategy aims to position Thailand not only as a production center but also as a hub for research and development (R&D), skilled personnel development, and a regional supply chain for the sector. The announcement was made during the Smart Electronics Forum at THECA 2025 (Thailand Electronics Circuit Asia), a three-day event promoting industry updates and business matchmaking.
The BOI noted that investment in the semiconductor and advanced electronics sectors continues to grow. Between 2022 and June 2025, Thailand attracted up to 500 projects worth more than 700 billion baht, including 180 printed circuit board (PCB) projects valued over 200 billion baht. This surge has been described as a “big wave of PCB investment,” with leading international companies, such as Mektec Manufacturing Corporation (Thailand) a subsidiary of Japan’s NOK Corporation expanding production in Thailand with BOI incentives to meet rising demand.
The strategy is expected to support the development of a skilled workforce, strengthen Thailand’s regional competitiveness, and attract significant foreign direct investment, projected at least 500 billion baht by 2029. This initiative reflects Thailand’s ambition to evolve from a manufacturing base into a comprehensive ecosystem for semiconductors, advanced electronics, and technological innovation in the region.
