The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has approved three draft announcements to expand the allocation of frequencies for wireless microphones, reinforcing Thailand’s efforts to modernize its broadcasting and telecommunications framework. The drafts cover technical and safety standards for radio and digital communication equipment, including Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) technology, and introduce additional frequency bands—particularly those exceeding 200 kHz—to support Wireless Multichannel Audio Systems.
This regulatory move addresses growing frequency congestion caused by widespread wireless microphone use in conferences, education, entertainment, and broadcasting. Legally, it reflects the NBTC’s mandate under the Telecommunications Business Act to manage spectrum resources efficiently, ensure fair public access, and uphold international technical and safety standards.
By enhancing spectrum efficiency and modernizing technical requirements, the NBTC strengthens Thailand’s capacity to host large-scale events and international conferences. The initiative supports the country’s policy to position itself as a global hub for events, concerts, and media production, offering modern, interference-free communication technology on par with international benchmarks.
