Thai cabinet approved the Draft Amendment to Rules related to Sign Height Restrictions

The  cabinet of Thailand approved a draft of the Ministerial Regulation on sign control or things created for attaching or erecting signs  under the Building Control Act B.E. 2522 (A.D. 1979) (the “Draft”) on 16 January 2024.

The Ministerial Regulation on Sign Control or Things Created for Attaching or Erecting Signs was issued in 2015. The  purpose of the existing Ministerial Regulation is to combine all related rules that control signs on the roof or rooftop in some main aspects, such as height of a sign on the roof or rooftop with its notable limitation of the sign and building’s height of 30 metres collectively. This, however, was proved to be considerable inconvenience for the two main reasons. Firstly, there might be in many occasions that there is a building next to another building with sign that has height of over 30 metres, resulting in such sign becoming not effective. Secondly, if the build has height of over 30 metres, the sign cannot be put on the roof or rooftop of such building anymore.

Therefore, the Draft will come in to solve some of the existing issues, such as the sign’s height that the Draft will not consider the height of the building in limitation to the placement of sign on the roof or rooftop of such building anymore.

In this regard, this Draft also aims to solve obstacles in sign and advertisement business sector as the government has previously consulted with the Advertising and Signboard  Producing Association.
