Thailand’s Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has established clear licensing guidelines for operators wishing to set up Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations. This move aligns with the Energy Industry Act B.E. 2550 (2007), which allow for licenses for EV charging stations exceeding 1,000 kVA capacity.
Under Thailand’s Energy Industry Act, EV charging stations with capacities above 1,000 kVA must secure licenses through a clearly defined process, while smaller stations simply need to notify ERC, significantly reducing regulatory barriers.
Investors interested in benefiting from this emerging sector must prepare documentation, including business registration, financial statements, detailed operational plans, and consumer agreements. This process positions Thailand as an attractive destination for sustainable investment. Licensing fees include a one-time charge of 50,000 THB per license and an annual operational fee calculated at 0.10 Satang per kilowatt-hour sold. ERC has modernized the licensing timeline, typically completing the process within about two months, including site inspections and formal approvals.
